I am stunned...just....absolutely stunned

A couple of Christmases ago, when the Wii system was new, Hubby camped out at Best Buy to get one for the Sons. It was one of those things, you know--we can't afford it, it's taking up a chunk of a Saturday he needed to use for other stuff, but Santa was going to really pull it out.

And he got one. One of the last ones available.

Christmas morning was AWESOME. And the family has enjoyed the Wii. We've bought a few games for it, we all have played it from time to time. It's not ALL we do, obviously, but...it's fun.

Tonight, I don't know how it came up in conversation, but...

Son #1 gave our Wii system to some girl at school.

I don't know when he did it.

He does not know where this girl lives.

He does not have her phone number.

And he thinks that it is in better hands, at her house, than here. He decided that his brothers weren't using it enough, and when they did use it they weren't taking good care of it, so he gave it away, without telling anyone.

He is furious with us, for telling him that he needs to find this girl at school tomorrow and get her phone number and tell her that Hubby is coming over, tomorrow night after work, to pick it up.

He thinks he did the reasonable thing, and WE are being crazy. He has been yelling at US, for telling him we need the Wii back tomorrow.

On a potentially related note, a few months ago I splurged on a new pair of sneakers. It was not really a splurgy thing---my knee was bothering me, because my sneaks were old, and sneakers are expensive so it FELT like a splurge. I bought them for myself for my birthday. And then a couple of weeks later, they disappeared, never to be seen again. Not one to keep spending money, I just went back to my old sneaks and am sucking it up, on the knee pain front.

But now I wonder. Does this girl have my shoes, too?

Holy fuck.

I mean, maybe I should not curse, but I am just beyond words, at this point.

OMG......I am speechless....check that boy into a hotel for the night. That is big, huge, surpasses anything I have heard lately....wanna go get a drink?

Good gravy woman. The game is gone, the shoes are gone. Your knee hurts. And lord knows you need shoes. :) My kids lose their stuff, fortunately little has been removed from the house because of them (that I know of, so far).

You and hubby are right to demand info though, so you can get the game back, in my humble opinion as a mutha. I'd be cranky. And ready to ground the kid somehow unless he comes through with the WII.

Maybe you and I should go shoe shopping.

Wow. I'm stunned too. Nobody, but nobody *needs* a Wii. Now... if this had been food or old clothes or something she couldn't live without, that would be different, but the Wii?

I am with you, swear away. Hope you get it back. That's just .. wow.

To quote that great woman of music, Whitney Houston, "OH HELL TO THE NO!"

Plus, if he had to give a Wii away, he could've called me...I have a 12 year who is constantly reminding me who has Wii's on sale. Now I know--call the Happy Boondocks!

Psssss: Son #1--Call a sistuh next time. At least Mom and Dad will know where to come get it.

Screw that for a game of soldiers! I wouldn't like to be in his shoes when this all bites...hard!

Cynthia-you are right. I am only now able to think without spewing obscenities.

Amy--yes, come to my house after the next Open Mic. You can sleep on our very comfy couch, and then we will hit the local thrift stores for shoes.

And he is dealing with "no phone, no rides to places you want to go, NO VISITS WITH THE GIRLFRIEND, until the Wii is back home and your attitude improves."

He is SHOCKED that Hubby wants him to go with him to pick up the Wii. Cannot fathom why we might think he needs to be involved in this whole thing.

Sue--You are right, nobody NEEDS a Wii. I will lay you odds that she has our Wii not because she needs it, but because he thinks she's hot.

Andrea--In another quote from that goddess of music and class,

"LEarning not to throtttttttlllllllee, your Sonnnnnnnn, it is the greaaaaaatest Lovvvvvvvvvve, of all."

Penelope--"screw that for a game of soldiers"...I shall spend the rest of the day trying to decipher that one. But in the meantime, YES, he is starting to feel the bite. And he is FURIOUS.

Well, let him be furious. He made a really stupid decision to steal. Yes, I said STEAL, because that's what it was. Blatant disregard for family, lack of respect for parental authority, disrespect for his brothers, I could go on and on.
Decisions like this, choices he makes at this time in his life, will carry over into adulthood. A single act like this, perpetuated differently, and he would be facing criminal charges. Charges that in our state now stay with you, even if you were a juvenile.
I hope DS will take a step back to look at the bigger picture. Tough love may be what you are dishing out right now, but it's better to do it now than to be visiting him in jail later.
He has a chance now, a chance to figure it out, to make good choices. Remain firm as parents. You're giving him the best chance he has, the choice of how he responds is up to him...

Castration! Yes, castration. It is the only way to cure those wayword hormones. Threatened with that, watch him step up!

I do wonder what her parents thought about the new Wii??????

Anonymous Neighbor o'mine:

Although the mother of the recipient REFUSED TO SPEAK WITH ME, I could overhear her telling the vice principal "SHE SAID IT WAS A LOAN!"

I feel like I am in the middle of a Judge Judy episode.

Come back and comment again, OK? I miss you and have no life outside of this blog ;)

wow - what a strange thing to do. Does she have your sneakers? Maybe she has some of your other stuff too - you should look around the house!

Boys and their thinking...there are no words...
