Not so great name for a band? Ugh

Well, we polled the electorate. Or, at least, we polled my readers on the blog, Hubby's coworkers, several bartenders and everyone at open mic night this past Thursday.

We presented that extremely long list (of names suggested by myself, Hubby's friends, and every member of the band), and accepted new ideas on the fly, and had people say what they liked of the bunch.

A lot of the names got a vote or two. A lot of new names went on the list.

The two big winners, though, were FrankenFish (Hubby's idea) and Oyster Shooter (mine).

Naturally, Hubby brought all this data to his last band practice and no one liked either one of those.

The drummer suggested a name. The rest of the band agreed to it. And so...at this point...Hubby's band is going to be called...

Ugh, I can hardly type it. The drummer's suggestions all had a certain ickiness to them. They all seemed perfectly suited to an early-80s, blue-collar, hair metal band. Which is totally unlike the music Hubby's band will play, but absolutely in line with the drummer's persona.

Not that he's not a nice guy and a talented drummer. I'm just sayin'.

The jury is still out. Maybe Hubby can talk some sense into the rest of the band. After all, they want something memorable, and clever, and easy to spell, and something that lends itself to a good logo for t-shirts and such, and something that is not already a band name on the interweb. Something that communicates the fact that this is a group of men in their early 30s to mid 40s, playing classic and modern rock and the occasional blues tune.

In other words, the last thing they want, is to call the band....

Infexious

Ugh

That's as bad as naming your daughter Mildred.

I still stand by FrankenFish.

Yeah, that's not screaming classic to modern rock or blues to me. :-(

Oh! Gosh! Umm...super! Geez is that the best they could do? I liked your suggestions a lot better ;o)

INFEXIOUS???? Um....transference of bodily secretions....nicceeeee!

ICK.....

I.am.not.impressed.

Not only that, but for goodness sake, I want to take a red pen to it and correct the spelling....

Sounds like a group of 17-19 year olds being, pardon the pun, cocky.

It doesn't communicate at ALL what people would see if they went to hear the band. Makes me think of sexually transmitted disease, not a fun night dancing and listening to great tunes!

For all that is sacred in the Happy Boondocks....this is NOT the name for a great band....

I.C.K.

It's actually InfeXious with a capital "X" in the middle, like the name of my first band in High School, RoXoff.

Along with FrankenFish and Oyster Shooter, another one that got a lot of votes was Killer Plankton

I have three criteria for a good band name:

1. Original
2. Easy to remember
3. Cool Logo Potential

I think InfeXious fails all three.

But hey, I'm just the Bass Player!

oh man. Infexious gives off a very different vibe than the one you described. VETO.

*swoon* Did the backgammon-playing-bassist just type?? I need a lie down ;o)

Penelope--and I think if you click on his comment you can see him actually PLAYING the bass. Maybe even hear some.

Having a female fan across the pond is great for Hubby, I am sure...

Cynthia, you are right, it DOES. That "RoXoff" band he was in? I think he was like 15. Capital X in the middle is a great thing
If
You
Are
15.

Hmm. It does sound very jejune. Granted "Jejune" is not a word I use that often but that's what popped into my head!

Frankenfish is catchier and great logo material. But what do I know? I mean, "Pearl Jam" sounds whacky to me as well as 10K Maniacs.

OK, you're going to laugh...well, maybe. When I know a story is building up to something, I can't help but skip to the end to see the punchline. I got to the band's name at the end WITHOUT reading the middle of the post, and I was thinking "OMG, total 80s hair band headbanger name!" Uh, it sounds like that's pretty much what the band is...

Let the middle-aged boys have their fun, I'm sure they'll outgrow it after a while. Trust me, we usually do that... (C:

Oh, Jim. If they WERE playing 80s, headbanger, hair band music, I would absolutely sign on for InfeXious. But as it is, people who would LIKE their music will be chased away by the name, and people who are drawn to the name will hate their music.
